Would it strike you as weird if I told you that it's hard to write about myself while the words usually flow out of my fingers? Probably not, as it is a common phenomenon and why would a writer be different from any other person in that regard? Add some introversion and notorious overthinking into the mix and something as deceptively easy as an introduction is nothing less than an hour long process of grinding through all the possibilities of how one can properly present themselves.
It's probably best to just get started.
My name is Mika! Nice to meet you. I have written since my earliest youth. The quality and topics have changed over time but one thing stayed pretty much the same: Writing is my outlet for all the things I can't express in everyday life. It helps me reflect, explore themes and fight battles on my own terms.
If writing serves as a catharsis, it has its price, and that's why my work isn't exactly light-hearted. Life offers challenges for everyone and mine lie mainly in the daily struggles of an LGBTQIA2+ person, which are characterised by misunderstandings, discrimination, ostracization and, thankfully rarely, violence.
My latest works all revolve around topics of identity but also lean heavily into existentialism and absurdism - who at least for me proved to be mental lifesavers.
The goal of my work is not only to portrait these struggles on an individual level but also offer a platform for others to connect through my work, feel seen, and know that they, that we are not alone.
